Ms. Fee, our grade 7 science and math teacher is leaving us Friday March 23, 2012 to go on maternity leave. We are excited for her and her family and hope she will come visit us once the new little Fee is born. We wish her the very best in the weeks ahead.
After spring break, Ms. Chambers will replace Ms. Fee. Ms. Chambers has recently worked at MidSun and Mountain Park schools teaching math and science on temporary contracts. Please welcome her to our red pod!

Good Luck Ms. Price!
Ms. Price is retiring and her last day will be March 23, 2012. Ms. Price has worked tirelessly for MidSun Students over the past four years. She has been our guidance counsellor, a science teacher and a living skills teacher. She was also a learning leader and developed important strategies for teachers to support our coded students. She has helped our staff develop professional learning communities and has arranged many important guest speakers and field trips such as our party program and grade nine tours to Centennial. She will be missed by the MidSun family and we know she will have many new adventures in retirement. Good Luck Ms. Price!

Drug Awareness Information Session
Midsun school will be hosting a Drug Awareness Information Session for parents by the Calgary Police. This community event will take place on Tuesday April 3rd from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the MidSun School Library. CPS will provide information that will make parents informed about the hazards that exist, and pre-emptive steps parents can take to protect their children. Towards the end of the evening, CPS will be taking questions from the public. Representatives from Alberta Health Services on hand to answer any related questions.
The event will be open to parents from Midsun School, other neighbouring schools, and members of the community. We hope to see you at this great event!

Mark update and Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences
Ends Report cards and an emailed mark up date should be coming home by Thursday March 22, 2012. Thursday is a short day.
We have the opportunity to try Conference Manager , an online booking system, for our upcoming parent student teacher conferences that are scheduled for Thursday March 22, 2012 from 5:30-8:00PM and Friday March 23, 2012 from 9:00 AM – Noon.
The site opens for booking at 9:00AM on Monday March 19, 2012. Each time slot is 5 minutes. If you would like a ten minute interview, please select two consecutive sessions. You may add any comments to let the teacher know if you have a particular concern you would like to talk about.
We hope that this will allow our teachers to be prepared for your interviews and make the time more productive for everyone. Please call our office at 403-777-6430 if you have any concerns.

A Parent Account is required to use the Conference Manager. However, you only need to go through the registration process the first time you use the system. If you have never registered in the Conference Manager use the link above and click the “Register Now” button.
Can’t remember your password?
If you already have a Parent Account, click on the link above, select “Forgot your password” and enter the email address you used to register in the system. You will then receive an email containing instructions for resetting your password. If you do not receive an email, you might have entered an email address the system does not recognize. Please also add appointments@schoolsoft.ca to your address book in your computer mail. This will over ride any spam filters that might be blocking the email. If the problem persists, please contact the office and ask them to access your Parent Account, confirm your email address and reset your password.
Step 1 - Conference Manager Opens to Parents – 9:00 AM; March 19, 2012
If you used the Conference Manager in the past, your email and password are still in the system. You can simply access the Conference Manager using the link above.
Step 2 – Book your Parent-Teacher interviews
Select the teachers with whom you want to book interviews. You will see each teacher’s schedule. Select one session for a 5 minute interview or two consecutive sessions for a ten minute interview. After booking your appointments you can print off your schedule. You will also receive an email confirming your bookings. You can log into the system at any time to view your bookings, print, cancel or re-schedule appointments.
If you do not have Internet access, you are welcome to contact the office and we will schedule your conferences on your behalf.

MidSun Student Chosen as a "Difference Maker"
We are proud of MidSun student, Aidan S., who was chosen to run in the Rick Hansen Relay. He applied and was chosen as a "Difference Maker". He ran his leg on Sunday, February 26, 2012. His desire to help others is a demonstration of excellence in character and citizenship. Thanks Aidan!
Centennial Spring Concert
The grade 9 band will be performing at the Centennial Spring Concert on Wednesday, March 21. This concert will feature all of the Centennial Music ensembles, and guest bands from MidSun and Samuel W. Shaw! The program will finish with a massed band performance of the Finale from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (Ode to Joy), including choir! The concert begins at 7:00pm, admission is $2 and all are welcome. Guests are also asked to consider donating non-perishable food items to the Calgary Veterans’’ Food Bank.

Share your ideas on personalized learning
The CBE invites you to help us better prepare CBE students for their future. We would like to hear your ideas and thoughts on how we can work together to support personalized learning in our schools. This input will help us to plan for our Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI) initiatives over the next three years as well providing the CBE with an overall understanding of people’s perspectives on personalized learning.

Senior Girls went 27-0 this season, winning our league final and 5 tournament championships. We defeated 19 different teams from Calgary, Okotoks, Lethbridge and Strathmore throughout the season. Incredible!

Dracula Performing Arts Production - March 2012
Students are presenting the play "Dracula" for their final performance under the direction of Ms. I. Chomyn.
With permission from the Dramatic Publishing Company, this play is full of intrigue, dance, movement and wonderful acting depicting the beginning foundation of the historical character of Dracula.
Midsun Jr. High School Performing Arts Class present “Dracula” at the school Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
