The Mid-Sun Book Club met on Wednesday, May 15th. Grade Seven students met to discuss “As Easy as Falling off the Face of the Earth” by Lynne Rae Perkins. The consensus was the book was boring and in fact no one finished. Life is too precious to waste time on bad books. A disappointment as the author is a Newberry Medal winner. The reaction of the Grade eights to their book, “Shock Point” by April Henry was also unanimous, but in this case we were all in agreement that it was a great read. It was rated a 4.4 out of 5 stars and the library has multiple copies. It is an exciting, fast read. Any of April Henry’s books would make great summer reading. Often teens who consider themselves reluctant readers really enjoy her thrillers.
Our last book club meeting for this year is Wednesday, June 12th. Grade sevens will be reading “All These Things I’ve Done” by Gabrielle Zevin. I hope they enjoy it as much as the grade eights did. Grade eights are reading “Home in Time For Dinner” By Kathryn Ellis about a teen who discovers he has been abducted by his father.
