This is a reminder to go online and book for our upcoming parent student teacher conferences using Conference Manager. These are scheduled for Thursday March 20, 2014 from 5:30-8:00 PM and Friday March 21, 2014 from 9:00-12:00 PM.

Teachers have been contacting parents of students that they believe need some extra support and booking appointments this week.

The site opens for booking by parents at 8:00 AM on Monday March 17, 2014 and closes at 4:00 on Wednesday March 19, 2014.  Each time slot is 5 minutes. Be sure to put travel time between interviews.

You are able to view marks and attendance records on HomeLogic on a consistent basis now. Please check your child’s information prior to your appointment so you can have the most up to date information available to you as you discuss your concerns. http://www.midsunschool.blogspot.ca/2013/12/midsun-homelogic-news-update.html  For more information about Home Logic, please go to http://schools.cbe.ab.ca/b691/parents.htm and click on HomeLogic introduction for parents. Next year Complementary Subject Selection for grade 7 & 8 Students

The start of our semester has had a fine kick off with MidSun hosting basketball games all week. On Thursday, Mount Royal University Cougars played off against our MidSun Laker Senior teams in a Harlem Globetrotter style game and raised money for The Children's Hospital.  It marked the 9th year of this annual event and many of our students enjoyed cheering on as we watched some great slam dunks and alley oops! Today, we were treated to some high school basketball as Centennial High School's Howler Tournament used our gym as an alternative site.

Look for our report cards going home on Wednesday February 12, 2014.  We have disabled teacher logic at this time to allow teachers the opportunity to enter and edit marks and comments.  With the start of the new semester brings us to planning for next year.  Grade 7 & 8 students will be receiving complementary subject selection sheets on February 24, 2014 and we ask that they are filled in, signed and returned by February 28, 2014.  If parents of grade 7 & 8 students have any special placement requests for certain teachers for their child for next year, they can send their requests in writing to vrsaretsky@cbe.ab.ca by March 1, 2014.  Please let us know what learning needs your child has that prompt the request. While we cannot guarantee that we will be able to place your child with the teacher you have requested, each request will be given consideration.  At MidSun School, a team of teachers who know your child place them into their instructional group. All classes are balanced for a variety of ability levels, sex, and leadership. Consideration is given to offer students the best class placement that allows for the most of their top complementary subject selections. It is a long and complicated process but an important one that sets up your child for the most successful year possible.

Have a great weekend!

Midsun Book Club update

Students gave a solid thumbs up to the novel Gone by Michael Grant. A story about a town where everyone over the age of 15 vanishes and some kids are developing supernatural powers. This is the first book in the popular series.

This month we are reading Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin, an author whose work we all loved from last year’s reading. If you have a student who has read and enjoyed Hunger Games and Divergent, they would enjoy Zevin’s All These Things I’ve Done. Book Club meets again on Wed. February 26 and we are always happy to welcome new members.
