Mid-Sun Book Club Update

The Mid-Sun Book Club met on Wednesday, May 15th. Grade Seven students met to discuss “As Easy as Falling off the Face of the Earth” by Lynne Rae Perkins.  The consensus was the book was boring and in fact no one finished. Life is too precious to waste time on bad books. A disappointment as the author is a Newberry Medal winner. The reaction of the Grade eights to their book, “Shock Point” by April Henry was also unanimous, but in this case we were all in agreement that it was a great read. It was rated a 4.4 out of 5 stars and the library has multiple copies. It is an exciting, fast read. Any of April Henry’s books would make great summer reading. Often teens who consider themselves reluctant readers really enjoy her thrillers.

Our last book club meeting for this year is Wednesday, June 12th. Grade sevens will be reading “All These Things I’ve Done” by Gabrielle Zevin. I hope they enjoy it as much as the grade eights did. Grade eights are reading “Home in Time For Dinner” By Kathryn Ellis about a teen who discovers he has been abducted by his father.

Sucessful year of LINKages

Congratulations to our LINKages students for becoming friends with a senior at the McKenzie Town Centre.

Over 100 students applied for 28 positions that were available for our students to participate in the LINKages program this year.  The selected students were trained and met with a senior for an hour every second week to play games, make crafts and chat.  Our students enjoyed the friendship they shared with the seniors.  We learned that we have more in common than we thought.
Well done to the following students who demonstrated good citizenship and helped fulfill our motto to make the world a better place:

Staff vs. Student Charity Hockey Game

Our 19th Annual Staff vs Student hockey game was held on Friday, May 3rd.  Staff and Students did a great job of supporting this charity event.  MidSun raised over $700!
75% will go to the "Kid's Help Phone" while 25% will go to "Free the Children."
A huge thank you to all staff and students.  Especially the Grade 9 Leadership students who planned the event.  Rylan B, Sofia Y, Seth H and Brayden S.

Badminton Windup

Congratulations to all three of our badminton teams.  They competed in the divisional meet during the end of April.  Our Grade 7 team finished in 5th place and our Grade 8 team came in an impressive second place.  The Grade 9 team has made MidSun history by taking the first ever division pennant!
All teams did a great job representing our school.
